Sh2 277   LRGB

Sharpless 277, better known as NGC 2024 or the Flame Nebula, is located approximately 1,600 light-years away in Orion. Other objects in this 1.7 x 1.3 degree image include:

Barnard 33 – The Horsehead Nebula
NGC 2023 – reflection nebula under the Flame
IC 435 – reflection nebula at the left side of the image
CG35 – Cometary globule at the top right. This one contains the Herbig-Haro objects HH 289 and 992.

Ha – 12x1800s – 360 minutes – binned 1x1
Luminance – 12x600s – 120 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2

600 minutes total exposure – 10 hours – between the two images

Imaged from Dardenne Prairie, Missouri (a red zone) over five nights in December, 2013 and January, 2014 with a SBIG ST-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT90DT at f/6.7 603mm.
