Hello! :D

I was wondering who else use a dslr!

The main question is, which ISO to use when i want to make a picture of a nebula...

I`ve tried many difference ISO, but the longer I expose, the lighter the picture gets and i think (don`t know) more noice.

I`m using RAW when i take a picture, already experience with jpeg there`s not enougt data to process with.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thank you B)

Subs range from. 4 minutes to 10 minutes
Also do darks bias ect
Now before i modded it i still used these settings check and test its worth just spending one night to check what works best and it depends what the target is check and test do ou have any images todate ?

Hi todd,

thnx for your reply,

the problem is at the moment, i can only have 30 sec exposure at the moment, because the 300d isn`t compatible whit the newest software.

what u mean with darks bias etc? that`s new for me.

i hope to make some pictures tonight!.

best regards

What camera do you have ?, do you have a lcd timer remote ? ( these are very cheap of e bay)
Download "deep sky stacker
And then read this
http://deepskystacke...lish/index.html
That will explain what to do
If you can only get 30 secs i would say that globulars and clusters are a great start so have. A look whats available for your location and get some subs (images taken)
For example i started out doing clusters and globular clusters as they do not take much doing and 30 secs is long enough ,try doing a hundred or so ,also leave a short 6/10 sec gap between shots
Remote timer like this but for your model of dslr
http://www.amazon.co...n/dp/B003WD0IKO
Hope this helps if not add me on skype and give me a call if you wish if not ask more here

hey pat,

i currently use a canon eos 300d, tried already loads off stuff to make it work.

But hopefully i`ll have a canon eos 450d at the end of this month.

Why you leave 6/10 sec gap between shots?

To allow the chip to. Ool down if you was to do a 30 sec sub then another one ect the cheap would heat up and amp glow might apear in your images also not sure waht the down load time to the card in the cameara is ?

Yes... This is a big consideration when using a DSLR.

1, Do not go too long with your exposures, anywhere Fromm 3-5mins is enough since the chip will become hot and build up more noise than signal
2, Allow a cooling period between shots so that the chip can dissipate some of the heat
3, I would use iso800 but it is camera dependent, therefore you will need to experiment with this setting.

There is a lot of info here on DSLR's take a look around or search for it.

Good luck and clear skies

Neil.

This may limit your targets do you have this software

http://www.stellarium.org/

Enter your location and see whats available ,but i think 30 secs and no guiding will be pushing the limits download stellarium and see whats out to night its free good software

As a said befor try for a cluster or glob cluster M3-M92-M10-M12-M14
Or try the ring nebula m57 you may get that at 30 secs but get lots at least 30x30 secs try more but try 30 to start with give it a try
