Comet PanSTARRS has just started visibility in the evening sky at Cape Town ,South Africa. Currently its too low in the west for me to image properly but last night - 02 March 2013   I was able to photograph it for a few seconds some 34 minutes after sunset before the comet disappeared behind a nearby house roof. Because of the bright sky the maximum exposure I could use was only 0.1 seconds.

I hope to get decent images in the near future as this is a real nice comet and easy naked eye. Images taken with a 102mm f/5 SKYWATCHER refractor and FLI8300M CCD camera.

My son and I went to a unobstructed vantage point right after sunset today but no luck. I had my binoculars. Unbelievably clear day here. I guess we'll have to wait a couple days yet?

Actually got a view of it last night , sat out in the depths of the Fens with a great horizon for ages but cloud thwarted me .

Drove home and Lo and behold he was visible from the garden . . .

Just had time to grab twenty frames with the 1000D and 300mm on a fixed tripod before he disappeared behind the greenery.

Quick stack and heavy crop to lose the streaky trees.

Not the prettiest pic but a good tester for next time ... ;)
