I just found out tonight that there's a new firmware ready to download for the Skywatcher handsets. I've downloaded it but haven't installed or tried it out just yet but thought it might be of interest to some folk.

Thanks Tich,

I was not aware of this update and as they "strongly recommend" for AZ EQ6 owners I'll be updating tomorrow!  It may improve the mount's accuracy which has not been the best though I am at F10!

Cheers :)

I did upgrade mine last time before they removed it from the website as I quite liked the idea of the polar alignment feature which I did try out a few times. But after I did the polar alignment routine via the handset I found targets used to drift quite badly afterwards so I'm hoping they have resolved the issue this time.

That does not sound good!  That said I've only used Alt Az so far but this seems to hold pretty good for what I need anyway.  I'll update and hope for the best

I think this version has an improved polar alignment feature so I guess time will tell with this version, when I eventually manage to get out with mine I'll try it.

Thankfully, it works really well for me in the southern hemisphere!

That's good to know as I intend flashing my handset & trying it out when we get a clear night one weekend.
